Ezalor: Revolutionizing Access Control with 3D Face Recognition

Huachao Gong's Award-Winning Design Enhances Security and User Experience

Introducing Ezalor, a 3D face recognition access control system designed by Huachao Gong. This innovative design, which won the Silver A' Security, Safety and Surveillance Products Design Award in 2020, offers a high level of security and ergonomic simplicity that fits effortlessly into your life.

The inspiration for Ezalor came from the discomfort users experience when they have to look into strong light dozens of times a day for face recognition access control. To address this, Gong's design uses soft diffusely reflected light, which not only enhances user comfort but also allows accurate recognition in extremely dim environments.

Ezalor stands out from other face recognition systems due to its unique properties. It uses 3D structured light and IR technology for dual liveness detection, ensuring fast and accurate face recognition and identity verification. The design also includes a 4.5-inch color LCD screen with voice prompt, and no-touch authentication for ultimate hygiene.

The realization of this design involved numerous experiments and verification tests on prototypes. Gong eventually found a spraying technique and an optimal curvature that can fully illuminate the human face while being soft and comfortable on the eyes. The device is made of durable and easy structural design, which can be mass-produced at a lower mold cost.

When a user approaches Ezalor, it automatically starts to recognize faces. If the light is dim, it will gradually glow. The face data is encrypted and stored locally, ensuring privacy. The setup and use of the device are intuitive, potentially reducing staff costs in the long run.

This design project began in September 2019 in Beijing and was completed in March 2020. The underlying research for Ezalor involved 3D face recognition technology, which has high recognition accuracy and can prevent deception by non-live images. It can thwart attacks with 2D printed faces, photographs, 3D face masks, 3D head models, and recorded videos.

In conclusion, Ezalor is a groundbreaking design that revolutionizes access control with 3D face recognition. It offers high-level security and ergonomic simplicity, enhancing user experience and fitting effortlessly into daily life. This innovative design by Huachao Gong is a testament to the potential of technology to improve our lives in subtle yet significant ways.
